LuckyCasino makes Ontario debut

Published

on

LuckyCasino, the flagship gaming brand owned and operated by Glitnor Group, has entered the Ontario market in a new expansion that will not only introduce the Lucky Casino brand to Canadian customers for the first time, but also create further strategic opportunities going forward.

After solidifying its position as one of the premier casino operators in the highly regulated Swedish market, the forthcoming Ontario launch is poised to be a monumental step forward. The anticipation surrounding this entry into Ontario has been substantial, considering the extensive wait for this strategic move.

With the Ontario online gaming market having opened approximately 20 months ago, the province has acted as one of Canada’s main trailblazers when it comes to providing a framework for legal gambling in the country and will likely serve as the blueprint that other regulators attempt to follow in the future.

Since the first Ontario licenses were distributed, the province has seen a massive uptick in legal online gambling among its 15.6 million residents, with many of the customers who were previously active at offshore casino sites now conducting their betting only at operators approved by the regulator instead.

In light of this, LuckyCasino’s Canadian debut is certainly a timely one that will allow the business to capitalise on this increased appetite among Ontario citizens to play at government-approved sites while enabling it to make a big impact on the market via its unique range of content and offers as well.

The move is also perfectly aligned with Glitnor Group’s over-arching strategy to have its B2C and B2B brands present in as many regulated markets as possible, making it another major milestone for the business that will increase both its global outreach and commercial prospects over the coming months.

David Schwieler, Head of Brands and Business, said: “As a collective, Glitnor is always looking for new ways to expand our business by entering new regulated markets worldwide – and the Ontario launch of LuckyCasino will certainly create a number of exciting strategic opportunities for us going forward. “Not only will LuckyCasino be able to build on the phenomenal success and recognition that it’s already achieved in Sweden, but having the brand available in Ontario will soon allow us to distribute titles from our leading B2B brand, Swintt, within the market. As such, the expansion will open new possibilities for our company in future and we’re sure players are going to love what we have to offer.”

Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to acquire the casino business and related real property interests at Hastings Racecourse & Casino (Hastings) in the City of Vancouver from Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (Great Canadian Entertainment).

“We are thrilled to take another important step towards economic self-determination for our Nation in our traditional territory, and we are eager to work with the senior management team at Great Canadian Entertainment to finalize due diligence and execute a definitive agreement, as well as working with the City of Vancouver to ensure the best long-term use of this important asset within the City. We believe that this opportunity is historic for us in many ways, and we look forward to entering the gaming industry in due course,” said Jen Thomas, Chief of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation.

“We are excited about working with TWN on their potential acquisition of the casino operations and related real property interests at Hastings Racecourse & Casino. Recognizing that Hastings is part of the TWN’s traditional territory, we can think of no better entity to inherit this asset, and we look forward to supporting them in the transition after the anticipated close of the sale,” Matt Anfinson, Chief Executive Officer of Great Canadian Entertainment.

The agreement is subject to further due diligence, finalization of financial terms and the execution of a definitive purchase and sale agreement. Once a definitive agreement has been executed by the parties, it is anticipated that the transaction will be subject to customary closing conditions as well as customary approvals by gaming regulatory and other authorities, including certain approvals by the City of Vancouver given its ownership of the real property. It is expected that Great Canadian Entertainment will provide transition services to TWN for a period of time following the anticipated closing.

OLG Advances Inclusion with First-of-its-kind Accessible iCasino Game

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is supporting accessibility in the iGaming industry with the launch of Red Panda Tails of Wealth – the first digital slot game designed with built-in accessible features to support players with disabilities.

In the popular digital casino landscape, people with disabilities often face barriers to participation. Instead of waiting for change, OLG is driving it by introducing the industry’s first inclusive gaming experience that provides the same fun and excitement to all players.

“We are excited to launch Red Panda Tails of Wealth on olg.ca, which is the result of a focused effort to put accessibility at the forefront of game design. The game is a proof of concept that shows how removing barriers to play can move us towards a more inclusive future in the gaming industry,” said Dave Pridmore, OLG’s Chief Gaming Officer.

With nearly one-third (28%; StatCan 2022) of Ontarians reporting a disability, the launch of Red Panda Tails of Wealth breaks barriers and provides more equitable access to play for an often-overlooked audience.

While Red Panda Tails of Wealth mirrors the appearance and gameplay of other iCasino slot games in market, it is built with universal design principles to deliver a fun, inclusive and user-friendly experience for all players.

Key accessibility features include:

• Compatibility with assistive technologies like screen readers and keyboard navigation

• A high-contrast colour palette for enhanced visibility

• An accessible heads-up display engineered to integrate seamlessly into future games.

To develop this first-of-its-kind game, OLG collaborated with Pixiu Gaming and Light & Wonder Spark. To ensure the game was accessible and inclusive OLG partnered with Fable – a Toronto-based company that connects organizations with people with disabilities for digital accessibility insights.

The insights from people with disabilities collected via remote user testing sessions played a key role in helping OLG create a game that meets real-world accessibility needs.

“Our mission at Fable is to empower people with disabilities to participate, contribute, and shape society – and this is how true accessibility is achieved. We’re thrilled to partner with OLG, who recognize the importance of embedding the voices and experiences of people with disabilities throughout the development of their new game,” said Kate Kalcevich, Head of Innovation at Fable.
