2021 VIRTUAL SPORTS SEASON BEGINS WITH VIRTUAL GRAND NATIONAL
For the fifth consecutive year, Inspired Entertainment, Inc. is producing the Virtual Grand National race to predict the outcome of the 2021 Grand National Steeplechase, to be broadcast nationally in the UK at 8:00 p.m. BST on Friday, April 9. The race is the latest in a series of re-creations of some of the worldâs great sporting events produced by Inspired.
Inspired has previously produced virtual contests based on of some the worldâs most iconic sporting events, including the Kentucky Derby Triple Crown Showdown, The Lexus Melbourne Cup and the Cox Plate. The Virtual Grand National, which has been developed in conjunction with Carm Productions, will launch the 2021 Virtuals season for Inspired, as it looks ahead to future events.
Inspired, the pioneer in Virtual Sports, has the largest array of Virtual Sports available 24/7, providing a consistent stream of sports betting content. Its multi-award-winning Virtual Sports use cutting-edge technology to create lifelike graphics which mimic the experience of real sports betting.
âWe have gained worldwide recognition for our virtual events, which have continued to be popular even as live sports have returned,â said Brooks Pierce, President and Chief Operating Officer of Inspired. âLast year 4.8 million viewers tuned in to watch the Virtual Grand National, broadcast in place of the real event, driving significant social media attention.â
âThe technology used to produce the Virtual Grand National is a unique predictive offering that can be used for many other sports events,â said Steve Rogers, Chief Commercial Officer, Virtual Sports for Inspired. âWe utilize a vast array of data points, including historical performance of participants, within our software to seek to predict who will win the 2021 Grand National, widely considered to be one of the most unpredictable events in the world.â
Last yearâs Virtual Grand National, won by Potters Corner, raised approximately ÂŁ3 million for National Health Service charities and âŹ300,000 for medical charities in Ireland through donations from Inspired and all bookmaker operators as part of the fight against COVID-19.
âWe are delighted to be working with Inspired on the Virtual Grand National for a fifth consecutive year,â said Rob McLoughlin OBE, Carm Productions, who devised the TV format for UK and international broadcasters. âLast year the virtual race took center stage, as the live race was cancelled due to COVID-19, and the viewership numbers demonstrated the popularity and interest level in such virtual events. The public support for the Virtual Grand National and NHS Charities was overwhelming, as millions helped raise much needed funds for our brave heroes in the NHS by joining in the fun of one of Britain’s greatest sporting events.â
Virtual Sports are popular worldwide and appeal to a wide variety of players, providing new revenue streams for gaming providers that can be easily integrated into existing sportsbooks and websites. Trailers and demos of the latest Virtual Sports offerings are available at www.inseinc.com/virtuals/.

1/ST and Goodwood Racecourse announce Group 1 pathways between the United Kingdom and North America
1/ST, North Americaâs preeminent Thoroughbred racing and pari-mutuel wagering company, and Goodwood Racecourse, one of the United Kingdomâs leading racecourses, today announce a new initiative that will see a reciprocal partnership between 1/ST-owned racecourses in North America and Goodwood Racecourse in the United Kingdom.
This exciting new partnership will see horses gain automatic entry following success at the Pegasus World Cup meeting at Gulfstream Park on January 25, and at Goodwood Racecourseâs world-famous five-day festival, the Qatar Goodwood Festival presented by Visit Qatar.
The Pegasus World Cup Turf winner in 2025 will be granted automatic entry to the 2025 running of the Qatar Sussex Stakes. Likewise, the victor of the 2025 Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf will gain automatic entry to the Qatar Nassau Stakes in 2025.
Additionally, the winner of this yearâs ÂŁ1m, Group 1 Qatar Sussex Stakes will gain automatic entry to the Pegasus World Cup Turf in 2026 and the winner of the Group 1 Qatar Nassau Stakes will gain automatic entry to the Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf in 2026.
This new partnership will create an easily accessible pathway for horses to compete both in North America and the United Kingdom and help to encourage top-tier racehorses to travel and increase international participation at both fixtures â while also bolstering elite fields for global audiences and deeper fan engagement.
Aidan Butler, President of 1/ST, said: âThanks again to our friends at Goodwood Racecourse as our partnership enters its second year. We canât wait to see how our Pegasus World Cup Turf winners fare on the other side of the pond and look forward to welcoming the victors of the Qatar Sussex Stakes and Qatar Nassau Stakes back to Gulfstream Park in late January 2026 for one of the most lucrative racedays on the East Coast.
âThese reciprocal pathways mark the latest strides in 1/STâs bid to broaden the appeal and international participation in the worldâs major races. Weâve already seen such incentives reap immediate rewards when Crimson Advocate won at Royal Ascot in 2023, having punched her automatic spot via our Royal Palm juvenile series at Gulfstream Park. Now, Miami can hopefully work its magic again with the Qatar Goodwood Festival!â
Edward Arkell, Director of Racing at Goodwood Racecourse, added: âWe are thrilled to announce this fantastic new initiative, and I would like to thank 1/ST for their enthusiasm and support. By pairing two of our most prestigious races with a pair of turf races at the Pegasus World Cup meeting, we are confident that we have unlocked a well-scheduled gateway.
âThis partnership also highlights the importance of collaborating with the best horseracing in the World and allows us the opportunity to showcase the obvious benefits of working alongside the North American horseracing circuit.â
