MGCB Issues Cease-and-Desist Letters to Three Online Casinos Operating Illegally in Michigan

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued cease-and-desist letters to Cryptowins Casino, Slotland Casino, and Winaday Casino after determining that the online gaming platforms were operating illegally in Michigan.

The action directs each operator to immediately halt offering internet gaming to Michigan residents. None of the three websites are licensed or authorized by the MGCB to provide internet gaming or internet sports betting within the state.

“Michigan law is clear—if you want to offer internet gaming in this state, you must be licensed. When unlicensed operators target Michigan residents, they’re not just breaking the law—they’re putting players at risk. Illegal gaming sites have no oversight, no consumer protections, and no guarantee that winnings will ever be paid out,” said Henry Williams, Executive Director of MGCB.

Williams emphasized that the MGCB’s actions are part of its ongoing, relentless effort to protect players and preserve fairness in Michigan’s legal gaming market.

“We have a strong regulatory system in place that ensures games are fair, operators are accountable, and players’ information and funds are secure. When offshore or unregulated casinos try to bypass those rules, it undermines everything that makes our market safe and credible,” he said.

The cease-and-desist letters require each company to immediately stop accepting bets from anyone located in Michigan and to prevent Michigan residents from accessing their sites.

The MGCB has continued to monitor online gaming activity closely since Michigan launched regulated internet gaming and sports betting in January 2021. Licensed operators in the state must partner with authorized casinos or tribal operators, undergo rigorous background checks, and adhere to strict requirements for game fairness, player protection, and responsible gaming practices.

The MGCB encourages players to verify whether a site is legally operating in Michigan before placing a bet.
