Best Legal Sports Betting Sites In New York
Online sports betting has now been legalized in New York, meaning residents who are at least twenty-one years old can soon sign up and place real money wagers at online sportsbooks. The move comes a few years after retail sportsbooks first opened up as NY legislators look for new ways of generating tax revenue.
Since 1992, there was a federal ban on sports betting, which means that there were very few ways to place legal bets on the NFL, NBA, and other sports leagues. The Supreme Court overturned the sports protection act in 2018, which means that states have been able to regulate betting since then.
Casino gambling had been legal in New York since 2013, but the state amended its laws to include sports betting in 2019. Since then, NY has joined the list of US states with legal in-person betting. Residents have been able to place bets on their favorite sports at retail sportsbooks, and in 2021, the law was amended once more to allow online sports betting.
Online sports betting in New York is now officially legal. However, no sports betting sites have launched yet. The state is still working out licenses and approving applications, with the first sportsbooks predicted to go live in early 2022. While You won’t be able to place bets online until then, you can still sign up to the following sites:
BetMGM
BetMGM is one of the most popular sportsbooks in the US, offering online and mobile betting and loads of markets on sports all over the world. The app gives you access to some excellent promotions and also allows you to bet on live events, use cashout and even edit your bets. The Edit My Bet feature gives you more control over your open bet, adding or changing legs or increasing your stake.
BallyBet
BallyBet is a relatively new online sportsbook that doesn’t have the same reputation as some of the other, bigger sites. However, it still offers a fantastic betting experience, with a wide range of sports to bet on and loads of great odds. The site includes some social features such as a live betting feed, showing other users’ bets as well as showing winning streaks and the largest bet win.
DraftKings
DraftKings might be best known for fantasy sports, but it’s quickly become one of the best sportsbooks in the US. The site is incredibly easy to use and will display personalized options for you based on your betting history. If you like to find the best NFL odds, it will show you markets on the latest games, for example. The sportsbook is also accessible through a mobile app, allowing you to place your apps from anywhere.
Caesars
Caesars sportsbook is already available in NY at two different retail locations, but bettors will soon be able to place bets online at the Caesars online sportsbook too. The site is really easy to use and offers a comprehensive rewards program that also allows you to gain rewards through betting in person. There’s a really helpful customer support service too, which means you’ll always be able to get answers to any questions you might have.
PointsBet
PointsBet is an Australian betting service that’s soon going to be arriving in NY. The site offers a unique way of betting, called the Points Bet. Similar to the point spread, this is a bet on the margin of victory in a game. However, your payout will be determined by the margin itself, with greater margins leading to bigger payouts.

Neosurf & Betting Hero to reveal results of their in-depth study into US online gambling and payment habits in exclusive two-part webinar series
Neosurf, the globally trusted provider of swift and secure cash-to-digital payment solutions, has announced it will be sharing the findings of a recent study into the online betting habits, preferences and frustrations of US players in an exclusive two-part webinar series beginning on January 14th.
Neosurf commissioned the research via Betting Hero – a leading US-based iGaming portal with expertise in casino, sports betting and DFS. The webinars will see Neosurf CEO Americas, Sue Page, Betting Hero’s Co-Founder and President, Jai Maw, and Senior Director of Product and Research, Ernie Ropas, dive into the report’s key findings and discuss what some of the more surprising results could mean for operators.
The survey, which featured respondents from New Jersey, Colorado and North Carolina, aimed to help operators and regulators within the gambling industry better understand the typical US bettor – how and why they bet, what tools they use to manage their budget and what Responsible Gaming means to them. The findings will be revealed in the webinars and used to identify areas where Neosurf’s products can help operators provide a better user experience.
The research highlighted several aspects of payments and responsible gaming that bettors felt could be improved. Problems with payments remain an issue – 52% of respondents said that they’d experienced payment issues in the past year, and with over 50% depositing and withdrawing multiple times each month, there is a significant cost impact to the operators.
Additionally, respondents indicated they’d be in favour of using a service that could share pre-verified ID information with operators, with ease of use for new payment methods and seamless integration across multiple platforms identified as important factors in their choosing and remaining loyal to a single sports betting platform.
Sue Page, Neosurf CEO Americas, said: “It was important to us to gain a more detailed insight into the US sports bettor. We wanted to talk to the players and ask questions that no one else is asking, and through our collaboration with Betting Hero I’m delighted that we now have a comprehensive piece of research.
“Offering valuable insights into player habits – how and why they bet, the ongoing pain points they’re experiencing with payments and their thoughts on Responsible Gaming—we’ll be taking a deep dive into the results of the survey in our two-part webinar series starting at 10:00 ET on January 14th, and we encourage all US-focused operators and regulators to join us.”
