National Council on Problem Gambling Welcomes Stephen Crosby to Board of Directors

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), an advocacy organization for people and their families who are affected by problem gambling and gambling addiction, has announced the appointment of Stephen Crosby to its Board of Directors. He will represent Individual Members through July 2019, completing the board term of Julie Hynes, who recently resigned.

“We are very excited to welcome Steve to the Board. He has a lot of experience in responsible gambling and will be a great asset to our organization,” said Keith Whyte, Executive Director of NCPG.

Mr. Crosby most recently served as the Founding Chair of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission from 2012 to 2018, leading the development of the destination resort casino industry to full-scale operations. In that role, Crosby was spokesperson for the organization and focused special attention on the agency’s considerable innovation in a unique research agenda on the social and economic impacts of casinos, in responsible gaming strategies, and in promoting diversity in the workforce and supplier base of the casinos. He also worked collaboratively with the International Center for Gaming Regulation at the University of Nevada Las Vegas to help modernize and standardize gaming regulation.

Prior to serving as Chair of the Gaming Commission, Crosby served six years as Founding Dean of the John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston and as Secretary of Administration and Finance to Governor Paul Cellucci and Acting Governor Jane M. Swift from 2000 to 2002. Presently, he serves on the boards of the Center for Applied Special Technologies (CAST) and the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling.

Mr. Crosby holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and J.D. from Boston University. He has 50 years of experience in policy making, entrepreneurship, non-profits and academics.
