IDHS launches website help people with gambling disorders

The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) has launched a website to help victims of gambling disorders for finding options for treatment and recovery.

WeKnowtheFeeling.org is offering a helpline 1-800-GAMBLER to provide an additional outlet for people experiencing gambling disorders, or for families affected.

Individuals can also send a message ILGAMB to 53342 to get treatment help. Support specialists who operate the helpline and website are trained in evidence-based approaches to connect callers and web-users with treatment and recovery support services.

The website initially offers a quiz to the victims to determine the severity of their gambling problem, chat with a live specialist for advice about responsible gambling, and to get connected with treatment providers.

The gambling website is funded by the State of Illinois. Morneau Shepell, a human resources consulting and technology company, is also associated with the running of the website.
