Google Changes Gambling Ads Policy to Allow Ontario Operators

Google has updated its advertising policy so as to allow regulated sports betting operators in Ontario to place advertisements for online sports betting, online casino, and daily fantasy sports on the platform. The move comes days ahead of the launch of online gambling market in the state, scheduled on April 4.

As per the new updates, sports betting operators in Ontario will have to obtain a certificate from Google by presenting their gambling licenses Obtained from iGaming Ontario, a subsidiary of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

Several operators, including PointsBet, theScore, 888, bet365, FanDuel, and BetMGM, have obtained their certificates.

Google states on its Advertisement Policy:

“We support responsible gambling advertising and abide by local gambling laws and industry standards, so we don’t allow certain kinds of gambling-related advertising. Gambling-related ads are allowed if they comply with the policies below and the advertiser has received the proper Google Ads certification. Gambling ads must target approved countries, have a landing page that displays information about responsible gambling, and never target minors.”
