Mexico Legislator Proposes New Sports Betting Regulations

Mexico legislator Erik Isaac Morales Elvira has proposed a set of sports betting regulations. According to the proposed regulations, the Ministry of the Interior will have the power to authorize and control sports betting.

It must be noted that sports betting is already legal in Mexico, only a few of the online casinos have cared to take permit, affecting the revenue stream from sports betting.  This is the backdrop in which new proposals were made.

Morena explained:

“A large number of international casinos on digital platforms do have the permits to operate and make profits. The gaming industry in Mexico is lagging behind and this means its impact cannot be seen in our country.”

The Government and Population Commission will now examine the proposals and decide whether to pass it for voting.
