Smarkets chooses Washington D.C. for its new US operations office

Sports betting company Smarkets has chosen the metro Washington D.C. area as the location for its new US operations office.

The firm will significantly increase its global presence with the opening of the new office in the US capital, on top of its existing London headquarters and other European base in Malta.

Smarkets is the parent company of SBK, a sportsbook app licensed to operate in three US states – Colorado, Indiana and Iowa.

Recently appointed Smarkets US General Manager, Sheldon Hanai, will be based out of the new D.C. office, where the company plans to hire business development, operations, and marketing experts.

Hanai said: “An East Coast office has been in the plans for some time and D.C. appealed to me greatly due to its vibrant tech environment and diverse talent pool. It’s also an energetic sports city with all of the major American sports represented and, of course, you’re right in the political and economic center of the US.”

Smarkets CEO/Founder Jason Trost added: “I’m extremely excited about opening our Washington office. Adding this new hub for our US operations will be a key step as we grow our American customer base with SBK. D.C. makes sense for so many reasons and is one of the most globally accessible cities in the country.”
