Big Scoop for the Pelican State: Louisiana Sports Betting Surpasses New York per Capita
- Since launch on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 8am CT until the end of Sunday’s games, there were over 3.4 million geolocation transactions* that took place.
- During the first 36 hours, the total number of unique players represented 3.6% of Louisiana’s adult population. This outperformed New York’s opening weekend where the number of unique players represented 3.3% of adult population.
- 68% of GeoComply’s volumes occurred within the southeastern section of the state, encompassing Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
- 9 parishes and various tribal exclusion zones make up the state’s unique patchwork of ‘geofences’ where wagers are not permitted.
- Louisiana ranked 8th in terms of GeoComply’s transaction volumes (total number of geolocation checks) for the weekend, ahead of IN (9), TN (10), CO (11) and CT (12).
*Geolocation transactions are not equivalent to total wagers, but a strong indicator of market activity.
Peak transaction volumes occurred on Sunday between 5 to 6pm CT. Below is a video of GeoComply’s pin drop map showing the volume and location of checks from players attempting to place wagers. Red shaded areas denote exclusion zones where wagering is not permitted.
