Jessica Welman is the New Markets Director for Catena Media. She first joined Catena in 2016 as a writer covering state-level gaming industries before serving as the editor-in-chief of PlayPennsylvania. Welman spearheaded the coverage of the lead-up and launch of Pennsylvania’s gambling expansion. Since then, she has led similar efforts in states like Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, and Virginia. Her expertise in state market launches serves her well in her current role where Welman oversees content and site development related to all emerging US markets.
Welman received a BA in Cinema-Television from the University of Southern California. She also has an MA in Communication and Culture from Indiana University at Bloomington. While her educational background may seem unrelated to gaming, it has served her well. Over the course of Welman’s career, she has participated in the award-winning podcast The Poker Beat, The Jess and BJ Show, served as the online host of the World Poker Tour, and represented the World Series of Poker in video content. She currently hosts and produces the weekly YouTube video PlayUSA to Z. Her love of film also comes in handy when it comes to her coverage of Academy Awards wagering. NPR’s Money Planet, CNBC, and The Wall Street Journal are just some of the publications that have interviewed her about Oscars wagering.
Welman first started in the gaming industry in 2008 as a poker reporter for PocketFives. Since then, she was worked with several major gaming and entertainment brands like the WPT, Card Player, and Caesars Entertainment.
